It would have been wiser and more effective for Congress to leave out of the stimulus package the billions of dollars it approved for soft social programs with a fuzzy impact on jobs, while focusing a lot more of it on projects with readily quantifiable results. Michigan, for one, could have used more than the $800 million it received for roadwork. It’s easy to count the construction jobs funded by that kind of expenditure and the bonus — improved highways — which are hard evidence of the benefits.

In addition, the nation needs a $100 billion investment in its electric grid if it hopes to fully develop a green economy. Putting the money there would have not only created a new economic infrastructure, but also created real jobs.

High paying jobs in the alternative energy industry?

I can see alternative energy sources as being the future for United States energy consumption as gas and oil prices fluctuate drastically. I am currently 18 and am going to join the military so I can have a lot of my college paid for. Currently I have 10,000 stashed away in gold investments and mutual funds that i was going to put towards my 401k. Anyways I was wondering which alternative energy has the most money in it (six figures)? What jobs in the alternative energy industry can I go into with only a bachelors degree in college that will give me six figure potential? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I live near Sweetwater, Texas and wind energy is really big around here. I don’t know how much money is in it though.

Nevada Senator Harry Reid and Energy Secretary Steven Chu announced yesterday that more than $90 million in funds for geothermal energy projects is coming to Nevada. This funding is expected to create more than 1110 jobs in the Silver State and support the goal of making Nevada the leader in clean energy. When this is finished, well be producing more electricity by geothermal than is produced by [the] Hoover Dam, said Reid.

Most people searching for a career want satisfaction from their job, as well as a paycheck from it. The way they see to achieve this is to go to a good school and do well so they can land a top job.

There are those, however, who prefer a job that achieves some good in the world, even if they do not make a lot of money at it.

Anyone know how that helps our economy?
The only positive I could come up with for Obama’s $790 billion stimulus plan was that it may help the economy by investing in renewable energy industries,
Why TF are we keeping up foreign nations when we have plenty of problems here? We have people with out health care here in the US.

“The president and many other advocates of alternative energy argue that an investment in green energy would lessen the nation’s reliance on foreign oil, cut greenhouse gases, and most importantly, create thousands of new jobs for out-of-work Americans.”

The book “Project New America” puts great stock in alternative energy investments for lifting the country out of the recession. Here’s a link if you’d like to review it yourself: http://www.sitenet.com/books/NewAmerica/New%20America%207.pdf. How well do you believe this could work?
